Sharon Nelson has always been engaged in her community. Currently, she volunteers at the Jamaica Association of Montreal as the President since December 2025 and represents that organization at various levels. Since 2015, she has been a member and involved on the board. Over this time, she has been the 1st Vice President, Secretary of the Board, Media and Social media representative, Director of Programs & Service, among other roles.
In 2024, she was recognized by CBC in March as one of Montreal’s Black Changemakers, she was honoured to receive the King Charles III Coronation medal by Anthony Housefather, Member of Parliament for Mount Royal in August. Most recently in of that year September, she received one of the highest awards from the West Island Black Community Association which is the Golden Heart Award in memory of Egbert Gaye, Founder of the Community Contact newspaper. In November of 2024, she was elected to the English Montreal School Board as the Commissioner representing Ward 5 in the NDG borough.
For more than 30 years and concurrent to completing her degrees, she has worked as the Assistant Director for the Executive MBA Program at the John Molson School of Business (Concordia University).
She has completed two Bachelor degrees at Concordia University (Montreal) in the fields of Biology (1997) and Civil Engineering (2010) as well a Master degree in Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM, 2018) at McGill University.
