The International Black Economic Forum (IBEF) Æfrotopia Awards recognize individuals and organizations that do not accept the status quo and have invested in accelerating wealth creation to transform communities. Their contributions have a significant impact on the lives of communities. It is important to note that participants of the second edition of the forum requested these awards.
This award recognizes the contribution of an elected official or public servant to the economic development of Black communities.
Nominees in this category must demonstrate:
A political leadership well beyond what is required by their office
A response to a socio-economic need/issue/challenge in Black communities
A strategic approach (initiative, public policy, etc.) that goes beyond what is being done
Impact on Black communities on a broad scale;
Mobilization of the political community and Black communities
The Æfrotopia Award recognizes an individual who sets the stage for the economic future of Black communities by creating opportunities.
Nominees in this category must demonstrate:
An ambitious vision that strengthens the prosperity of Black communities, whether urban, rural, or diasporic.
An approach based on the mitigation of economic vulnerabilities.
An approach that embodies ethical values.
The innovative aspect of the method used to resolve problems in part or whole of the initiative presented.
Their capacity to always impact Black communities on a broad scale.
This award recognizes an individual who helps foster the entrepreneurial spirit of Black communities.
Nominees in this category must demonstrate:
A vision with an ambitious approach that fosters the entrepreneurial spirit of Black communities.
The large-scale impact on Black communities.
The innovative aspect in the method of solving problems in part or in the whole of the presented initiative.
The concrete ways this initiative has stimulated other startups or existing businesses in the community.
Broader impact on Black communities.
This award recognizes an individual who has been outstanding in promoting science and technology in the communities. In addition, this person also values the endogenous knowledge of Black communities.
Nominees in this category must demonstrate:
The scientific innovation (idea, initiative, project, organization) that addresses a critical community need/challenge/issue.
An entrepreneurial approach that embodies ethical values.
The value of the endogenous scientific knowledge of Black communities.
How the initiative integrates sustainable development concepts.
The large-scale impact on Black communities.
This award is given to organizations that have made a phenomenal contribution to the economic well-being of Black communities.
Nominees in this category must demonstrate:
How their organization’s mission addresses a socio-economic need/issue/challenge of Black communities and these communities are their target audience.
The inclusion of a cross-sectoral approach (gender, different minorities, etc.)
That the initiative has the potential or has enabled the emergence of several projects aimed at improving the economic well-being of Black communities.
How the initiative incorporates concepts of sustainable development.
An approach that embodies ethical values.
This award recognizes an individual whose entire career has been dedicated to the economic advancement of Black communities.
Nominees in this category must demonstrate:
An outstanding lifetime contribution to the economic betterment of Black communities,
The exceptional ability to mobilize and collaborate with community stakeholders and organizations,
The broad-based impact on Black communities,
The sharing of the learnings with the next generation of Blacks.
The recipients of the Economic Impact Awards will be selected by a jury chaired by Nadine Beauger CEO of the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRICoR)
